Aging in Idaho: Financial, Political and Spiritual Power

George Lucas, a senior citizen and creator of “Star Wars,” is developing affordable housing on his ranch. He plans to house senior citizens and other groups in need of low-income housing. It’s a power move against those who initially blocked his efforts to expand his film studio on his own ranch. You may not have $150 million (the cost to develop the housing) like George Lucas to make a statement. However, if you’re a senior citizen, you have real power in this community due to the growth of aging adults relocating to the Magic Valley.
You have financial power. Wherever senior citizens move, money moves with them. More and more seniors are moving to our area to experience a better quality of life. The financial power you hold helps to determine which businesses stay or go. You help to decide what opportunities, products and services are available to rest of the community. Through your buying power, you help to shape real estate prices. Where you invest, or don’t invest, what your purchase, or don’t, and where you dine or don’t, has an impact on what’s available to the rest of the community.
